Pros

Fideltiy is an organizatiion that demonstrates integrity in their policies and actions. Individuals at times lose the vision at times, but the organition is self correcting over time. The products and services are excelelent and the vlue to the clients is as good or better than most competitors. Fidelity has strong and solid senior management, fair treatment of employees, a excellent business plan in their retail services. Cannot comment on other parts of the organization.

Cons

Politics, lack of recognition for excellent work. Processes are in place to do so, but they are hollow at times.

Pros

No age discrimination at all. I was hired at age 62 as a beginning employee. The training was intense and excellent,. One of the requirements for staying is that you HAVE to pass the Series 7 licensing exam. For a person who is interested in istock and fund investing, this is a great place to learn. The company has a rigid insistence on integrity, which is a good thing. I worked with persons who had been at Merrill, and other companies; they universally said that the expectation of integrity made communications with customers much easier for all parties. Fidelity offers various Health Insurance and savings programs; insurance is very good. Also, the 401K Program, Pension, etc are excellent. Fidelity Phone Representatives are available 24/7, In an on-the-phones team. at about six monts intervals, you have the opportunity to bid to move to a different shift.

Cons

The company requires a college degree for evey employee who will have contact with the public, but the starting slalary seems low for that type of position. There are opportunities to earn bonuses, but you are competing with all other employees in your job type for the share of a fixed "pot" of money. Since I was the age of some of my supervisor's parents, and I had also been a senior military officer, two of them appeared to fell awkward about advising me about job performance, and took a harsh tone to cover up their embarassment. This was only two persons in eight years with the company; most persons in Team Leader/Management positions are excellent. The shift work requirements can become very wearing, especially late shifts.

Pros

Overall the benefits and compensation at Fidelity are excellent, and they are the main reason I joined the organization. The 401k matching is unbelievable, and the health insurance is outstanding (although the employee contribution is rising significantly in 2009). There is also a real sense of comradery within departments and my coworkers are some of the smartest and professional people that I have ever worked with. I think Fidelity does a great job at trying to have a good work/life balance, giving employees flexible work options and offering plenty of time off. I think there is also plenty of opportunity to succeed and grow at Fidelity, but you must perceiver throughout times of great change and recognize the potential.

Cons

As with any large institution, you tend to get lost with the amount of people and how huge the organizational chart is. I also feel, that at least in my company (FTG, FISC, Infrastructure, whatever it is called this month) there is a disconnect between Management (directors and above) and non management. In my last company I felt like the organization was more of a family, and here I feel like I can not approach management because I am below them, very close door policy. Obviously 2008 was a challenging year, and the financial services industry as a whole has been a challenge, its sometimes hard to see past the turmoil when your job itself is unknown. Finally I think theres a lot of employees who are “lifers”, people who glide by just doing the minimum and not adding real progressive value.
