Pros

Occasionally, the vending machine snacks are not past their expiration date. The San Francisco offices have fantastic views despite being a firm with a prison culture.

Cons

If you are a minority be expected to be treated like the help. Very much a "white man's boy club," management doesn't foster entrepreneurialism and vetoes any refreshing practices, the highest degree of politics and sycophancy is to be expected. Analysts/Associates are underpaid given the long hours worked.

Pros

Putting Goldman on your resume. This is literally the only benefit you will get from this company.

Cons

There is more pressure than you can believe. Pressure to not take vacation. Pressure to get all the work done and not work overtime. Some employees will work overtime and not clock it all because it is so frowned upon. Leadership is terrible in creating opportunities for motivated candidates. They suppress those that are willing to lead. They re-branded the company trying to establish they have changed but this is certainly not the case. The selection process for advancement is for those willing to never say a word or give input. If you do not speak then you will be promoted. Pay is well below the value you will add and the uncertainty for the job makes it just that much worse.

Pros

Quick promotion possible relative to other banks if you butter the right people up and don't go against the status quo

Cons

Long hours and no encouragement from senior management to have any reasonable work/life balance. Depending on your year of joining the firm you could do very poorly in terms of compensation, particularly per hour. Internal mobility was very difficult and not supported by management.
