Pros

Festival tickets, fun staff training days, public acknowledgement for good work, good work incentives (mini prizes) and team building exercises were fantastic. The social aspects were brilliant. The parties were fun and there were occasionally national gatherings of fundraisers organised in a ceremony at head office, to present awards and socialise. Working outside and being paid for it is refreshing, its not so much of a sedentary job. Semi-flexible working hours. Variety of location, getting to discover new places in your given region.

Cons

Low tolerance to failure (workers can be put on "probation" before being fired). High turnover of fundraisers means group cohesion can be thrown off. The daunting feeling of not having achieved enough "sign ups" on a day and the subsequent pressure from above i.e. the team leader (who feels pressure from management). Frequent miscalculations of wage by payroll executives. Workers, log your hours and check your pay checks!! When I realised, I had already left Greenpeace. Lastly, there is very little job security, but this is the nature of fundraising, if you reach targets, you stay and reap the benefits.

Pros

people are very sweet, generous, kind. team players, definitely want to work together to make awesome stuff happen. and like many NGOs, Greenpeace attracts smart, ambitious people with a lot of heart.

Cons

the organization is such a mess. there's so much hierarchy and it's very hard to figure out who does what, who makes what decision, how your role fits into the bigger picture. makes it very hard to feel like your work is meaningful.

Pros

The work is amazing, especially if you are values-driven. Colleagues are smart, passionate, creative, and wonderful. Hours are flexible. Pay is decent for an NGO.

Cons

Poor management means staff are not treated according to the values of the organization. Staff burnout is not uncommon.
