Pros

Low workload, their old offices are outside of the city center of Shanghai but the environment is ok

Cons

There is no option for wfh or remote. Five days of paid holiday a year, and you also work Saturdays. Absolutely no work-life balance. Very blatant double standard: foreign-born Chinese are always preferred for promotions, even if they have no command of Chinese and no experience in the field. The management has no idea about linguistics, translation or localization. It's really heartbreaking to see them ruin the potential and squander the budget that the company has. They also refuse to learn or listen to feedback (only positive feedback is accepted). Hiring situation is very hectic, they can give you a one year visa and fire you after two months. Most of the PMs don't speak a second language, which is a huge setback for any language services department. Apply only if you have a backup and don't care about low salary.

Pros

Salary can really go high if working hard. One of the main incomes are through travelling, there are types of allowances that motivates the staffs to work more, it is tempting especially towards young people who just started their career. A lot of opportunities, you get to see the whole picture of what telecommunication market is, it's good if you really having a clear target on what you gonna achieve here. Also another good thing is that there are plenty of resources to get whenever you encounter a problem, either through some experts working in RnD team, or through some libraries from their intranet, you will just need to be hardworking enough to go through those materials, In short, there are no lazy people here (most of the cases), everyone strikes for a same goals to work and earn. It will be an unforgettable experience throughout your whole work life. Taking myself as example, I got to travel more than 10 times a year in about 6 coutntries, talking about exposure and pay, i think there is no any other company in KL is able to offer this kind of opportunity.

Cons

As everyone knows, the working culture in the company is usually "working day and night", it is somehow usual here to have meeting (internally) at night because everyone is having works or meetings with customer during the daytime. Not only impact on your life, where you will have no time for hobbies, but even for your family, or partner. Moreover, you really need to have a good physically condition to continue this working lifestyle in long term. However, this probably not applicable to all cases, I am just saying this probably because of my own experience.

Pros

Good salary in the long run, if you have the skill to negotiate and also raise this request. If you do not raise it or raise a complain about salary, your salary will not increase or change. Possible option to be awarded TUP (similar to shares of the company), which in the past was great, but given their recent company performance the amounts received is no longer as lucrative.

Cons

No career progression if you are not Chinese, you often work with a lot of incompetent people who will be given more opportunities for growth and learning than you. As a non-Chinese you will often feel like a second class employee, you will always be informed last of any changes, they will always questions you and doubt you. Strong Chinese culture, which can be difficult for many to adapt, even in branches in Europe. Efficiency is non existent.
