Pros

Great pay, benefits, and culture. IKEA US Digital Hub has hired everyone as work from home during COVID, and seem to indicate that working from home will be encouraged even after the office reopens. There are no hours and very little direct managerial oversight. If you are like me and enjoy working with teams and self motivating, this is a perfect environment. Very respectful of all opinions.

Cons

The flip side of a flat organization that encourages self organization and equality is that direction and vision can suffer. The US tech presence is very new, and I believe they deserve a lot of leniency. That said, as of right now there is a lot of confusion regarding what work is for Sweden and what is for the US. Frankly though I believe this is a growing pain, and once they get on track it is promising to be an exciting and enriching experience.

Pros

I really liked the people I met there. IKEA has a tendency to attract all kinds of people, so my team was always diverse and fun. The benefits were good, too.

Cons

They changed the work structure of the selling co-workers. You used to be hired per department (sofas, beds, etc.), but they changed it last year so that you would rotate to different parts and learn the whole store. It sounds cool in concept, but it's pretty overwhelming and sometimes frustrating to feel like you are an expert in area, and yet spend all your time selling things you aren't familiar with. You also lose the camaraderie you have with your team, when you spend hours wandering around the store by yourself, trying to pick up on things on your own because staff is spread too thin to get you a qualified trainer.
