Pros

Work culture, work/life balance, benefits and very accepting. I adored my department and manager and left the company due to moving. My role helped me refine my project management skills and the social tact involved working with others to meet a common goal.

Cons

It was very obvious to see the politics at play as a coworker between managers, who played favorites with schedules for other departments or who even played favorites overall on getting tasks done for anyone doing a project. This also plays a role in climbing up, not entirely but when you need recommendations for any sort of leadership role there is an awareness that someone else is getting a head start just because. There was also the issue of short staffing overall since our store was not meeting goals, with it being very hard to ignore the turnover when our roles were asked to do much more with the same amount of time. It wasn't hard to feel like you were just another cog in the machine due to the issues and that your concerns weren't a high priority. It is also very rare to climb out of store level as those positions are very coveted, so it at times feels like a retail job with just a little flair.

Pros

Great benefits , and competitive pay. Good company culture when working at most locations .

Cons

Upper management has a culture of that is non inclusive. This location has the highest turnover in the company. They do not know how to lead , they just manage and can’t get anything done . They do not live the company’s values in any which way or form. It’s sad to see 100% turnover with new hires at this location. Bad training from steering management all the way down the coworker.

Pros

- Proper work-life balance: no taking work home; - Rather flexible schedule; - Nice coworkers and immediate management;

Cons

In a few words: new store management. Since February, all non-salaried, non-FT coworkers saw their hours cut 40% with the explanation of "poor financial performance of the store", following a FY 2021 bonus. The store has been consistently outperforming IKEA goal metrics by 5-25%, and had been busy spectacularly busy before and remained after the hour cut. Such a cut is seen as a move to drive older employees out in order to optimize the budgets by eliminating RRSP match, higher hourly wages of said employees, and re-hiring students and teens on minimum wage with no benefits on 12 hrs/week. Needless to say, 30-40% of the total employee headcount left, and since the workload and compensation have remained the same, the result has been a nosedive of customer service quality, burnout of employees, loss in sales and customer satisfaction, and even more people winding up to leave the place. IKEA North York is a perfect management textbook example of how not to manage a successful business.
