Pros

- some nice perks, especially in larger offices. Great office spaces - Some level of flexibility, though this was taken away gradually as the company grew - You get to work with some great people

Cons

- blatant favoritism, promotions based on nothing but good connections to leadership and personal friendships. Leads to deeply toxic atmosphere - Incompetent leadership in most teams - the few exceptions really stand out and I kept wondering why they stick around. Leaders are often young and inexperienced, I had the impression that no leadership training was available - Biased, unfair and intransparent performance reviews. Don't count on your bonus, because they will even cite vaguely worded attitude issues to limit your bonus. Basically - if you are successful your goals will be lifted to impossible standards sooner or later. - Lack of strategy. The company seems to be jumping from here to there constantly, I never saw a coherent strategy that gave me confidence that Indeed can be successful even when Google and Facebook enter the market - Bro culture across the board, made worse by perks being more tailored to that audience, not the female or older workforce. Diversity initiatives are in place and driven by great people, but Indeed's biggest diversity issue is an extremely young, male-centric culture, with little room for parents, women, minorities (I found the review further down from a black employee’s perspective very accurate!) - Insane micro management. I've never experienced anything even close to this. Seems to be happening across all departments. Soul-crushing. - No career development, especially outside of Austin and Dublin offices.

Thanks for sharing your experience of working at Indeed. We love that you’ve met so many good people as colleagues and enjoyed working in our great office spaces. We’d like address the comment you have made around the perceived ‘bro culture’ at Indeed. This is truly disheartening for us to hear and we don’t anyone to feel marginalized or devalued at Indeed. While the microculture of every office is different, the views and voices of all employees matter. Managers are held accountable to their leadership roles and we’re monitoring this through our employee engagement surveys and manager performance feedback. This provides us insights on the employee experience, and we take it seriously. Capturing this information allows our HR Business Partners to take action immediately by delivering direct feedback and actionable recommendations to managers. Diversity and Inclusion is not a “short term fix” for any company, including Indeed. It takes time and commitment. It’s embedded in every HR functional action plan with metrics, deliverables and accountability. Our senior leadership team is volunteering as executive sponsors of employee resource groups that focus on underrepresented demographics. The goal is to gain insights and recommendations on how to increase our impact of creating an inclusive culture, as we strive to be leaders in this space. Our talent attraction team has also embedded diversity and inclusion in their strategy to attract and recruit diverse individuals with the goal of becoming a more inclusive company. We do read all of our reviews and take them very seriously as a business. Please do email us at inside@indeed.com if you would like to discuss anything further regarding your experience.

Growing pains that are getting worse, not better

Pros

You work for a growing brand and influence in the staffing and job search space.

Cons

There are seemingly no written policies or procedures to explain or inform anything. Managers are not trained to help their teams excel, diversity is put on the back-burner to inclusion (put one pea on a pot of soup and try to make it fit in,... it can't), company is hiring so fast that a decline in revenue will certainly lead to layoffs, HR does not check in with employees, decision making is far too centralized and the company is not actively considering and combating growing competition.
