Position eliminated while on maternity leave

Pros

The company is voted "Best Place to Work For" year after year.

Cons

1. I was laid off 3 weeks after I started my maternity leave. The reason, as put forth by my manager, was that a business decision was made to eliminate my role. What I learned from this experience is that, while it is illegal to lay off someone because of pregnancy or maternity leave, the employer can circumvent this by eliminating the position so the employee would have no job to return to. Needless to say, it was challenging taking care of a newborn and job searching at the same time. 2. Too much time and energy was devoted to making the product look pretty without releasing new features that actually address real user problems.

Pros

- excellent people - good work life balance - great mix of team diversity

Cons

- decisions are made willy nilly... they made a huge commitment to moving office locations only to second guess themselves shortly after and core out the main Edmonton office. - no employee trust. You can only keep laying off so many people before your always looking over your shoulder. - politics is rampant up the chain.

Pros

easy work life because there is no real work.. its all obsolete desktop work

Cons

People get fired for no reason, no appraisal feedback of any kind is given and people just get told that you are outstanding but now you are fired. Key leaders have left the organization now and only those of a specific community aligned to the local VP are here.. overall not a good place anymore
