Pros

It's probably the best employer I ever had (and I had many of them - big and small). Good work-life balance, excellent compensation, flexible work time (including telecommute) are definitely advantages that not many companies propose nowadays.

Cons

They very much follow the global American corporate trend: hire in India and fire in US. Career growth opportunities are few, transferring between business units is difficult, but not impossible. Management is rather average at all levels and is not very technical, as a result, a lot of talking about generic things that technical people grin at: "corporate values", "mindset", how everyone should be involved in "innovations", etc. Since you get here, you don't want to move anywhere else (I'm not sure if it's a cons :)

Pros

No dress code, somewhat flex able hours/locations, smart people, relaxed atmosphere, getting better at innovative thinking

Cons

Lack luster equipment/hardware, very little career growth, technology decisions are normally biased and a poor fit for the overall company, hates Microsoft, stuck in a Tax/Accounting rut that they can't seem to get out of

Pros

Total compensation is very good Community involvement and "we care and give back" show genuine interest in community Effort to 'reinvent' itself could lead to interesting greenfield opportunities

Cons

Can take a long, long time to make a decision Effort to 'reinvent' itself is causing a lot of churn--there is a clear high-level vision, but management is having real trouble executing on the vision Many technical folks have a lot of catching up to do--desktop focus and writing everything from scratch is making it hard for many to come to terms with online innovation Processes around IT delivery (virtual containers, networking, computing capability in general) are so broken it takes a monumental effort to get new work done.
