Pros

Numerous opportunities for personal growth as the company has and continues to grow and diversify rapidly. If you like challenges, this is a great place for you.

Cons

Long and odd hours for US based employees who support or supervise the overseas operations. Some functional areas slow to promote even after taking on significant additional responsibilities.

Pros

Good people, good culture. Leading edge technology. Facilities are nice and the benefits are decent, although a bit pricey. A true work hard play hard atmosphere.

Cons

Difficult to break into strong "good old boy" network that occupies the top levels of management. Old habits die hard could be the motto here. Change does not come about easily.

Avoid Memphis

Business Outlook

Pros

Jabil works on a quarter system. The first month hours are normal. As the second month hits, overtime starts to increase. The third month is where overtime increases for everyone. For hourly employees, there are a lot of paid overtime hours.

Cons

For salary employees, the hours are long with no compensation. Typical salary employees work over 500 hours overtime in a year. The Memphis facility employs a lot of foreign workers in salary positions. This keeps the overhead low, but displaces American jobs. Most of the foreign salary workers are brought in from other Jabil global facilities. The plant uses a lot of temporary labor. Management continuously look for short term cost savings that lead to long term financial losses. Managers tend to create production problems to generate opportunities for solutions. The solutions are then lauded as process improvements driven by the managers in Kaizen events. Managers pad cost saving projects and finance is constantly pressured into accepting the savings. Follow up project assessments are not completed as required by the Jabil policy. Safety is a constant problem. Management does not follow OSHA or EPA guidelines as required.
