Pros

The benefits from the union.

Cons

You will never move up into a non union position unless you know someone. Your resume won't even make it past a recruiter if they don't recognize your name. They won't even look at your resume. Most jobs are posted already having someone in mind to hire so everyone else is just wasting their time and energy. Doesn't matter how many years you have here or if you have a degree, certifications, etc if you don't directly know someone.

Great money for the job that you do.
