Pros

Benefits are great. Perks are great too.

Cons

If you are unlucky to report to a manager who doesn't care about your career growth or follow Microsoft's evaluation tools, no one is holding them accountable. This means that you can be without career evaluation for years. The issue is that the tooling (Connect) is used to apply internally so if like me your manager is simply uninvested, they render you non-competitive. My best option was to apply outside of Microsoft to reach seniority. The other issue is diversity. While I see the value everywhere. As a woman, it wasn't fun to be the only one in the room as I was the only woman in my team. I think Microsoft is overselling diversity to attract talent but there is no real plan after that especially for diverse candidates with manger who are not invested. Lastly HR was not helpful or supportive in addressing the issue besides dismissing my concerns and sending me back to my manager. And so was the leadership team.

Pros

Terrible middle management - who do not support employee growth.

Cons

Constant manager turnover, micromanagement, and complete disregard for company values in middle management. You're just a number in a massive machine and not treated like a person.

Lack of Accountability

Pros

- Benefits (best in corporate world) - Flexible (work arrangements from home and hours) - Interesting work (if in right role on right team)

Cons

- Little to no process to truly hold managers who engage in bully behavior accountable. - Lack of effective coordination among teams in same business units. - Perf review process (“Connect”) has become either a checkmark (do it for sake of doing it) towards a carrot or too easily used as a stick by managers who have created hostile working environments. These type of managers also often control the ability for targeted employees to change roles (by crafting a narrative of why other teams shouldn’t hire that team member).
