Pros

Great A++ benefits. Average pay for technician role. Easy going environment. Lots of free things offered to grow your knowledge base, such as free Microsoft vouchers and access to ebooks. I would return to Microsoft for a job but probably not at the datacenter.

Cons

A technician is all hardware based, no skill in OS or Networking required and achieving a higher up position in these fields is nigh impossible as the administrators/junior engineers are outsourced to India. People that move up are typically those who are self-serving and lacking empathy. It's all about playing politics. There currently isn't adequate staffing for a 24/7 site. If you want overtime you'll get it.

Pros

- Remote working - mat & pat leave is very generous - charity / five back scheme - corp level culture in US - high quality customer centres (EBC & MTC).

Cons

- Terrible on boarding program... I came into the business from outside of IT being told I would be trained up well. Then arrived to be told it’s “a sink or swim” environment & I need to figure it out for myself through Microsoft’s online platform & from colleagues. 6 months later told by my manager that no amount of training can replace experience - totally farsical & discheveled company (in the UK anyway). - Poor salary compared to other tech companies. - Many employers seemed extremely arrogant. - Mostly awful internal tools CRM, Commissions platform etc. - employees seem extremely time poor & stressed

Pros

Good food, cab facility, work from home, free snacks & fruits

Cons

Poor quality technology stack. Slow moving software & tools, but fast expectations. Poor quality talent within the organization. Medieval methods of retaining employees - too many team outings, too many hours of meetings per week, expectation to work 24 X 7, plus, hostile behavior by managers. They work only on legacy projects, since new projects are difficult to monetize. Projects are poorly implemented by their sub standard employees. Even non .NET technologies (like front end technologies) they use are at least 5 years behind the times. In other words, a perfect place to spoil career.
