Pros

The best reason to work for Morgan Stanley is the name recognition. They give you a base salary while you study for all the required licensing and pay for your testing. The benefits are fantastic. There are many choices for medical. The dental coverage is very good. The 401(k) has some great selections. All of them start day one of employment. The other financial advisors are honest with you when asking questions. The CSA's are very helpful as well. They definitely know what they are doing. If you have a book of business coming in it may be a good place to work

Cons

The interview promised a team atmosphere, hands on coaching, mentoring, and support in marketing. Their technology is some of the worst in the business. There is absolutely no support for someone starting out. There is no communication from the Sales Manager and the Complex Manager which you are told how they are very involved in making you succesful. If you can track down a manager they might acknowledge you as they are walking away. Good luck getting approval to send out marketing letters. They may let you send them from the office but it will be out of your pocket. They tell you that you are evaluated quarterly but will let you go if your goal is not met within a month and a half.

Pros

Alot of smart people you can learn and network from. Good benefits and resources. There are opportunities to move up if you know the right people and establish a good working relationship with your manager. The obvious name brand of Morgan Stanley helps tremendously in terms of jumping into another firm. Morgan Stanley has great facilities in Westchester. The health and fitness center is definitely something all employees should participate in. There are alot of great range of people from young to old so you can establish your own niche in the company. There are alot of events Morgan Stanley throws so make sure you get involved.

Cons

Like any big firm, you feel you are a minor employee. Some brokers and investment managers are big headed. They feel they own Morgan Stanley. Do not be taken back by their stupidity just let them be. Because of the name brand of the company your salary may be lower compared to a boutique company. Bad communication internally often leaves employees questioning about the direction the firm is going into. They emphasize the importance of seniority with the firm which I personally do not think should be weighted as heavily as it is. Smartness and ability to deliver results should be more important than seniority.

Pros

Morgan Stanley is a great company with an outstanding reputation. The money is good & everyday at work is interesting in different ways. An employee can really learn how the financial world is affected by working here.

Cons

It is very hard to get promoted if you do not have several upper level contacts in New York. Morgan Stanley only likes to recruit at "top schools" and often times the people that we get at the undergrad level start out making large amounts of money when there are superior people that already work here that could be promoted and given an opportunity for more responsibility.
