Pros

The compensation is better than most Wall St. firms. At Morgan Stanley you will find out quickly that they want to retain their own talent. Most of the big competing firms do not treat their employees as well as Morgan Stanley.

Cons

There are almost always long hours, especially during busy season. Some of the work that you do on a very daily basis is not the most intellectually rewarding. Moving up in the company sometimes has more to do with the amount of hours you put in, rather than your potential.

Pros

The typical employee is smart and hard working. There is a good opportunity to learn from others. Compensation and benefit package is good. Good place to establish a strong professional network. Despite recent events Morgan Stanley is still well perceived when compared to other companies.

Cons

The recent market turmoil is keeping many people on edge. This isn't good for productivity or morale. This tough times will pass, but it is unlikely that the financial rewards will ever match previous ones. Despite that it can still be a rewarding place to work. Work hours are long. Promotions are difficult to achieve as it is a very competitive environment.

Pros

At Morgan Stanley, I enjoy a great salary and fantastic benefits. I also feel great knowing that I work with some of the smartest people in the industry. My coworkers are all outstanding. My job is incredibly fast paced, so there's little room for time to get bored.

Cons

The downside of working for any large company like Morgan Stanley is that there are lots of politics involved -- it varies significantly by manager, but many managers do not value work-life balance and there are often people who get rewarded for doing very little work. But you can find that anywhere. The most significant downside is that the market is very volatile and your job is at the mercy of the market.
