Pros

It is a very prestigious place to work, but the lifestyle is unbearable and, like most places in finance, the people are even worse. Everyone is very self-important, and no one is nearly as bright or clever as he thinks he is. It is definitely a good place to start a career, but every day you will question why you've decided to spend your life in such a miserable place. There are many ways to make a dollar in this world, so you should strongly question why you've chosen this place to make yours. Also, no one is good looking.

Pros

One of the best known investment banks in the world. Incredibly smart people at all levels of the organization. Good quality of life benefits compared with other investment banks. Compensation on par with other banks. Great opportunities for training and learning. Big brand name which stands out on the resume for follow on work with other financial institutions.

Cons

Long hours. A very large hierarchical organization with little room for "the grunts" to provide feedback and show thought leadership for senior management. Will always be one step behind Goldman. Sometimes if you do not have the right pedigree you will not fit in. Very political.

Pros

First and foremost Morgan Stanley is a great name. It is a good company to have on your resume. Also, the benefits are great and on top of that you get 20 days of vacation. The offices in New York are very nice and for some of the new hires in the Baltimore area they pay for you to train in NY for a few weeks.

Cons

At Morgan Stanley you will work long hours and there is no hour lunch, you simply run to get food and then eat at your desk. This often leads to burn out among the employees and moral goes down quickly. There is no overtime and when the technology doesn't work you have to sit there for hours just waiting. There were some days when I was there until 10pm at night for reasons I could not control. Also, the Baltimore office lacks leadership, most of the management there are new and don't have experience within Morgan Stanley.
