Pros

There used to be good reasons to work at motorola, maybe back in the early 90's. They were growing, had a diverse product and solution portfolio, and you could even achieve some amount of professional success.

Cons

Lately, there is nothing to be happy about at motorola. For the past ten years, all they have done is lay off wave after wave after wave after wave of good people. Tens of thousands of people's lives negatively impacted. Morale is at an all time low, and people don't get any work done because they spend the majority of their time looking over their shoulder waiting to be the next one to get laid off.

Pros

The benefits were decent. Some product lines were best in class and interesting to work in. Facilities were good.

Cons

R&D slashed constantly. Management more interested in finance and divestitures than sales or operations. No long term strategy apparent besides getting sold and cashing out.

Pros

HIGH TECHNOLOGY - I have worked for several companies and Motorola Solutions does work in the latest technology or competitive. FLEXIBLE TIME - You can take PTO or Sick Leave. I rarely took sick leave but it was always there. This can be a double edged sword, I'll mention in my Cons. GOOD PAY - Pay is competitive with other companies.

Cons

DOES NOT INVEST IN ITS PEOPLE - I once asked about Green Belt training (Six Sigma) and was told that they do not do that anymore. No classes on new languages. Its expected that you have it coming out of college, or learn it on the job, and what job/task you have determines your technical progression. NOT FRIENDLY TO EXPERIENCED PEOPLE - Due to the constantly layoffs experienced people are in competition with "fresh outs" to keep their job. CONSTANT LAYOFFS - All companies lay off but never 3 layoffs in less than 2 years, and usually when layoffs occur its done as a last resort due to the effect it has on employee motivation, cohesion for those that survive, and families for those that are laid off. I would say the layoffs at Motorola Solutions has become a business practice. TAKING ADVANTAGE PTO AND SICK LEAVE - I have worked for several companies and have never seen a company where so many people work from home (WFO), (WAH). Many take Paid Time Off (PTO) or half days. I have never seen in all my years people come in in shorts and/or sandals. Many employees take advantage of the flex time given. I have never seen people come in at 1pm and work till 5pm.
