Pros

I have been a Technical Writer at Motorola Solutions for ten years, and my experience has been overwhelmingly positive. The main reasons I've built my career here are: Meaningful Work: We aren't just documenting widgets. Our products (command center software, public safety radios, etc.) are used by first responders and in critical situations. There is a genuine sense of purpose knowing that clear, accurate documentation helps people save lives. Stability & Respect: This is a stable, mature company that values its core functions. The technical documentation team is seen as a respected and necessary part of the product development lifecycle, not an afterthought. Professional Growth: Even within the same role, I've had the chance to grow immensely. I've become a subject-matter expert on complex systems, led documentation strategy for new product lines, and mentored junior writers. The company supports continuous learning. Great Collaboration: I work with some of the smartest engineers and product managers in the industry. For a technical writer, having access to SMEs who are willing to collaborate and share their knowledge is essential, and that culture is strong here. Work-Life Balance: While there are deadlines, the overall culture respects personal time. The management understands that quality technical writing requires deep focus, not just a "butts-in-seats" mentality. The benefits and compensation have remained competitive.

Cons

As with any large, global company, there can be some bureaucracy to navigate. Processes for final approval can sometimes involve multiple stakeholders across different departments, which can slow things down. However, this is a minor issue compared to the overall positive environment.

Pros

In general most people are great to work with and helpful. CEO Brown has done a decent job over the years from a top level and he is very articulate and will actually answer an email from the ordinary workers .

Cons

Motorola is a great place to work if you’re not looking for a pension ,but be prepared for no raises or vertical job movement. You will be stuck where your at (unless you are in management where its like a frat club). It’s a shrinking company with no innovation, so work just to get their name on your resume and move on. The people in the trenches are great, but the management style no so much . Motorola has a bad habit of laying off older very knowledgeable , decades long seasoned employees nearing retirement, replacing them with college fresh-outs or contractors Employees recognize this bad behavior and lose dedication ,Management thinks this is saving them money short term but it costs since they are always reinventing the wheel instead of innovating . Having a practice of hiring a contractor , have you train him, lay you off since you’ve been there too long (even though you excel) , and then hire the contractor. I’ve seen this happen for years, and it’s age discrimination. They’re so blinded by their Capex spreadsheets that they’re tripping over dollar bills to pick up dimes . Do not expect to have any long term career at Motorola . Great place if you want to moonlight multiple jobs .
