Public service. The knowledge you are doing something good and prestige. Ability to treat friends and family and good cameraderie.

Cons

Underpaid, overworked, chronic resource deprivation, physically depending and emotionally. Long hours. No regular breaks. Nights and weekend work. Invisible management.

Nice people to work with, good variety of clinical experience, incredible concept of healthcare system "free" to patients, quality care, opportunity for training and post grad education, good leave allowance.

Cons

Lack of resources, ability to affect change can be slow, very role-based culture, great variation in quality between different hospitals/healthcare agencies.
