Pros

Generally great coworkers willing to put in the time. Provide co-op students with work placements

Cons

Poor management style, no leadership in pre-construction, waste huge amounts of money bringing people from overseas, then forget about them. They are not open to creative solutions or evolving. They just want it done the old fashion, "PCL way."

Pros

The benefits are unmatched compared to any company I've ever worked for, and some healthcare providers I visited literally needed to double check to make sure my benefits were accurate because they were in such disbelief at how great they were. And there are some truly great people there. It's a great place to work if you're fresh out of college and want a medium-sized company on your resume.

Cons

Historically and generally speaking, leaders get down in the trenches and work WITH you, while bosses bark orders AT you without having a clue what you actually do. PCL only has bosses on the corporate side, no leaders. The corporate side is not a place to grow your career or develop your skills, it's a place for your skills to dull and rust. In the short term the employee ownership model encourages great work, in the long term it rewards checking out to just sit back and collect stock dividend checks until you retire. Corporate salaries might(?) be "competitive" within the industry, but if you're on the corporate side, chances are your skills can apply to ANY industry and you'll get a massive pay raise if you leave construction. Lots of infighting and teams working against each other, especially in the dynamics between the Canadian and American regions. Role clarity and job expectations don't exist, I was told they're "coming soon" though.

Pros

Great collaborative team, opportunities to learn but not to grow.

Cons

Even if you are Senior or a professional with more than 10 years of experience, you start with 3 weeks of paid vacation. It takes 10 long years to get another week and 20 years to get the top 5 weeks. No real diversity and inclusion. The executives and seniors promote and talk about it however the org chart shows a totally different story and that's the reality. There is no opportunity to grow. After years of effort you don't get a promotion, it is just a foggy career path, unless you have connections or relatives to pull you up. Ex-employees from this company are now working with competitors, getting senior positions in shorter time frame and getting more benefits compare to here.
