Have been at PCL for about 2 years, great place to work, very well managed, the employee ownership model is fantastic!
Pros
Lots of training, you get to pick health benefits based on your needs, you are kept in the loop as to corporate and district activities, opportunity to grow as much as you want, very exciting work, help is available, team environment, mobility, flexibility in terms of schedule, work from home IT capability
Cons
Coming into PCL mid career takes a gigantic leap of faith and lots of patience as it is like taking a career step back for a few short years. You have to join with the intent of partcipating in the share ownership program as salaries and bonuses are a notch or two lower than the norm (share ownership more than makes up for this, eventually). My view is that the excessive emphasis placed on rewarding long term commitment negates recognition due for past experience when bringing 'outsiders' 'in' . Vacation is way behind the times, I had to give up vacation time to join PCL, since it takes 10 years to gain an additional week I will basically NEVER get to the maximum amount of vacation since I will be retired before this is possible! It's kind of like being penalized for not joining the organisation sooner (yes, I tried to negotiate albeit unsuccessfully).
