Steady construction work. They had a huge tool crib. Thousands of tools and sweet female crib attendants.

Some foremen were great. Others not so good.

Good place to work, but has some challenges.

Pros

Getting exposure to various aspects of construction and technology. PCL is willing to do research and development to determine if it is a good fit for PCL. PCL is very open minded when it comes to innovation. The benefits are good, and so is being a share holder.

Cons

Timelines and workload is not always reasonable or achievable. Managers are squeezed between employees and upper management, with little support, or direction. Often managers do not have the resources in place to complete projects on time. Employees who complete a high volume of work don't get the credit they deserve, while those who are good at making friends in higher places contribute very little. PCL is focused on new employees and retirees- but have no plan for people who are in the middle of their career.

Thank you for your feedback. We recognize the important contributions that managers make to PCL. As a result, we launched the 18-month Leading People program last year to provide our people managers with resources and tools to be successful. We encourage you to speak with your district HRPD manager for more information about this, and to discuss other ways we can support you as a manager.
