Pros

Benefit package is better than mediocre but less than great. Product seems to have a good reputation... wonder how long that will last. If you are in top management you don't have to worry about listening to the employees.

Cons

A very top down managed company and getting worse every year. Management is royalty... perhaps related to the parent company "Royal Dutch Philips" Cheap, cheap, cheap: The Dutch ownership squeezes the employee nickel till the buffalo on it shits. Philips is a vehicle for exporting US dollars to The Netherlands. No position of any importance is maintained in the US if it can be moved to The Netherlands. If you ain't Dutch... you ain't much. Seriously question how long market share will survive when customers call for anything at all and get a voice from India. Logistics outsourced to UPS... when was the last time you were delighted with UPS service? Risk aversion is the only game played.

Pros

I get a paycheck... If you're in to being a manager or "VP" you'll want to work here! We are quickly getting to the point where we have as many middle manager types as we do regular salaried employees.

Cons

Where to begin...Way too much middle management and all of the typical problems it brings. The company is bogged-down with processes. Processes become more important than the results (intended or unintended) of the process itself. The company is cutting to the bone and beyond with respect to "employee restructuring". This may look good on the balance sheet this quarter or next but the long-term repercussions spell disaster for this company.

Pros

A global company with good technology, good people and good benefits. They support self-development through internal training classes. Unfortunately the talent is wasted because Philips fosters a culture of consensus. Consensus is good but Philips has taken it to a level that paralyzes and stifles the talent that can help Philips become the industry leader.

Cons

In 2 years, I have witnessed 3 reorganizations in one department. Our product development lifecycle process is longer than that. Constantly reorganizing singles reactionary leadership not strategic leadership. The multiple reorganizations have led to a lot of political wrangling and fulfillment of personal agendas that have not benefitted the company. The business group is the only one that is profitable but it could be 4 or 5 times as profitable. The business unit is too risk averse; most decisions are done by committee which increases the length of time to develop an action plan and implement it. Strong decisive leadership is not encouraged.
