Pros

Very light workload. If you're able to put in a few hours a day you will rise to the top performers list

Cons

Leadership is a mess. Technology is decades old. Change is nearly impossible to make. Only those who have been there at least 10 years have any kind of pull on technical approach. Pay is below average and leadership refuses to accept that this is why people are leaving.

Pros

Nice flexibility. Most coworkers are easy to work with.

Cons

Two reorgs in the first 8 months I've been with the company. A sure sign management doesn't know what they are doing when the only solution is to shuffle people around and hope it helps. A clear bias is shown towards Des Moines-local employees. My direct manager (or "leader" in Principal-speak) was completely clueless as to what it took to lead a team. I spoke with my leader's leader about it and was brushed off. People don't leave bad jobs, they leave bad leaders. For a company that specializes in benefits, requiring 3 years of employment before 401k matching is vested is lame.

Pros

Good place to work with the right manager. I actually had a good experience for most of my time there. Most of my coworkers were nice.

Cons

I was a happy and loyal employee for many years. Everything changed when I was transferred to a new manager and placed into a role that did not suit my skillset right before a personal life event. This manager drastically increased my workload over the next few months with no regard to my personal situation and eventually I was working 60+ hours a week while receiving no yearly increase in salary. Meanwhile I was being scolded for not being "dedicated" enough and labeled as "underperforming" because I was unable to manage an unreasonable workload. All of this led to unfairly being placed on warning and having my yearly bonus taken away because I couldn't meet my boss' unrealistic demands. After a few more months I couldn't handle being mismanaged so badly that I happily left for another company.
