Pros

Great opps for career development; fantastic client base; strong learning curve...as a trainee I have access to a wide variety of clients and am getting experience in a number of different tax fields. There is very good in-house training that would stand to you in any job - classes in IT, management, communications etc. In the Dublin Office there is a strong emphasis on keeping everyone, even the more junior employees, informed and empowered in relation to the work they are doing. There is also much emphasis on treating people with respect and on maintaining a good work life balance. Excellent staff facilities- gym, restaurant etc.

Cons

Sometimes I feel that there is too much emphasis on internal processes- chargeable hours, appraisal meetings, time-consuming internal training sessions etc - often these things can distract you from the job you are trying to do and can lead to a sense of distraction and lack of focus on client work. The emphasis on chargeable hours in particular, is very destructive- pitting colleague against colleague in what is essentially a very subjective game- one person might bill two hours for a simple letter, another would only bill half. Unfortunately though in this respect it is QUANTITY, not QUALITY, on which you are evaluated

Pros

Variety of projects and clients to work on. Get some great opportunities to work with both the partners and directors within PwC but also upper management at clients. The training and benefits are great, a descent amount of social events help keep everybody happy during busy seasons.

Cons

The amount of hours worked is inconsequential, everybody is expected to work a lot of overtime. Your life is generally determined by the managerial skills of the people above you.

Pros

Working for PwC first of all means working with great people. It's hard to imagine any other place where you can get so much support from your peers. Besides, there's always a challenge you have to face. There is no time to be bored or degrading; you just keep moving forward. Comparing what my team do to what people with similar jobs do in other companies I have to admit that we use the best techniques and tools, so it is a good place here for professional development. International environment is also adding some flavour to everything you do here.

Cons

Speaking about downsides, first of all it is the work/life balance. The job in itself is interesting, fascinating, but there is just too much of it, and spending most of you time at work cannot be the first priority for everyone, though the Management does not seem to care. Comparing salaries and benefits with the market, I would say they are more or less the same, but going back to the work/life balance, unfortunately I can't say that the job pays too much. Not all see career opportunities for themselves and there is little proper work done in this direction.
