Pros

Management is really good at taking care of their employees such as offering chair massages during busy season, giving us a 3 day weekend during busy season, having dinner delivered during busy season, and office closings around the holidays. The partners are easy to talk to and always willing to help and share their knowledge. Staff will get to see more parts of the audit sooner than at Big 4 which helps advance their careers. There is a lot of room to advance quickly if you are motivated and show initative. Promotions are based on performance and not a set timeline.

Cons

Experienced hires probably don't get enough/proper training. Promotions are announced in June however they are not effective until September. Feedback is not given timely.

Pros

In a tough economy... it is a pay check.

Cons

RSM McGladrey is an organization that lacks any vision. The organization is highly reactive to current conditions, management fads, and monthly financial metrics. The partner group is generally lackluster and each partner tightly controls his/her fifedom. The is little knowledge sharing among professiionals in the same practice area and individual employee fortunes are often tied to how well they can kiss up.

Pros

Very open environment. They offer opportunities that the Big 4 do not. There is a great variety of work opportunities for all levels throughout the company.

Cons

You are offered flexible time during the summer but if you use it you are looked at as a incompetent worker or a slacker. It is really an HR promotion that the partners and upper management do not support. Using your PTO is pretty much the same way.
