Pros

The people I work with - they make every day bearable. Decent salary. Modern offices that are fine when not at capacity!

Cons

— Progression “freeze” - there’s nowhere to go. Expected to level up, work at a level above yours, with no recognition or reward. You can be in the same role for years and years, taking on more responsibility - but no one will thank you and your role will stay the same. — Hypocritical policies. Claiming to be “human” and support neurodiversity and families yet at the same time laying down a blanket policy where everyone must work in the office 3 days per week, no flexibility, no debate to be had. To take effect in 2 months time. To quote a senior leader: “If you don’t like it then maybe Sage isn’t the place for you.” Actually, what I don’t like is having to be in a call centre-like environment on Teams calls with people all over the world. Trying to focus on a room full of chatter, at a desk I can’t even call my own. Oh and let’s not forget the abysmal traffic queues, the canteen that can’t cope with numbers, the poor Starbucks people who can’t cope with numbers either… yet the offices are in a business park with nothing else nearby! — Senior leadership (CEO, Head of Product) seem solely focused on making money, “high performance”, etc - meanwhile the CEO is on £4 million and isn’t trying to juggle a young family and full time work. Head of Product spoke to company like a room full of naughty schoolchildren. The entire culture seems to be turning toxic with these people in charge. Morale is very low and I don’t expect this to change unless management make positive changes.

Pros

Upper Management are mostly clueless and have no real direction. The rest of us just have to pick up the pieces. Colleagues are really good to work with, and the work/technology can be interesting. If you can showcase your skill then advancement can be really easy, but it all depends on the quality of your manager.

Cons

Remote work was sold to us as necessary for the business with no proper justification. We're an international company, a lot of the people we communicate with are remote as we aren't at the same office. We sit there like a call centre, headsets and webcams on, not doing any real work because of the distractions in the office. Sage don't care about the travel/childcare costs incurred to us, it's not their problem. There's only two justifications I can see for moving to hybrid work, when the directors visit the office (rarely) they like it to be full so that they can film it every so often, and that they've had pressure from the canteen to get more customers. Upper management also act like cowards, changing things like hybrid working through internal twitter-like posts, instead of discussing it with us properly. This kind of behaviour has given many workers a negative outlook of Sage. Sage don't care about you, they like to shout about being human-focused but they're really not.

Pros

-Remote position offering a lot of flexibility -Commissions were decent -You can make it decently if you've been in the industry for a long time and have a wide base of relationships to rely upon to sell

Cons

-Stove piped organization, the left foot has no idea what the right foot is doing -Apathy. Most colleagues in support staff or even other sales departments could care less if you lose the business, at the end of the day they are still getting a paycheck -Upper management hasn't sold anything in two decades and is out of touch with the challenges their salespeople face -Product. This product is getting killed by the competition, businesses need a more robust solution so you are forced to go after very small companies only -Internal tech/processes. In order to bring in a deal you have to jump through a series of flaming hoops with zero help. These things are automated in other organizations but it's all old school paper here. You're expected to waste a lot of your time updating a CRM that does nothing to help a salesperson it is just there to help back office folks manage operations.
