Pros

The Bank of Nova Scotia promote as “one of the best employers” but recently leyes off 3% of the most experienced, and loyal employees just because they want to decrease number of employees.

Cons

Scotiabnak is good source for someone to build the skills and knowledge as long as management support and not hire incapable people.

Pros

Flexible hours to an extent, no weekends. Good benefits plan. Lots of vacation and sick days. Christmas bonus pay

Cons

Wow what isn't a con at this branch... Management constantly talks down to staff, belittles, and is snappy. Not allowed to ask questions unless you want your head bitten off. Inconsistent training, they change policies and don't inform everyone, don't give everyone the same instructions. Very toxic environment full of cliques, nobody is a team it's all a competition and if they don't like you, watch out. No praise - worked here 4 years and I'm very reliable and friendly, always smiling to customers... Guess how many times I've been told positive things about my work there? Yep. Zero. Told countless times a day how many mistakes I make, made to feel dumb, how I'm not confident enough, etc but not given the skills to build confidence. Told to solve problems on our own first then go to management but when this is done, we get treated with disrespect. Tellers are treated as less than human unless you're one of their favourites. Interview process sucked - told me they needed a background check. Then said something was wrong with it and I had to get fingerprinted but oh wait, the fingerprinting company they work with is in Ottawa, not Renfrew. I don't drive, so they expected me to walk from renfrew to Ottawa to get fingerprinted?! Ludicrous. I fought it and they let me do it in Renfrew. Got hired, only to find out nobody else who was hired around the same time even needed to do a background check. Extremely toxic environment here. Been in tears multiple times and there's no kindness or empathy here, just told to do your job. Very goals focused, push push push for the sales results. Focus is shifting from customer satisfaction to upselling. Do not work here if you value your mental health and sanity.
