Ten years of my life wasted

Pros

Most of the people I worked with were great. Some of the outside of work activities were fun. Free banking products.

Cons

Horrible people management. No regard for employee well being. Poor work/life balance. Unrealistic goals with outdated tools and training to achieve them. Upper management has no idea what goes on day to day in a branch. Push higher paid employees out to replace them with newer, lower paid employees.

Pros

Most ordinary colleagues, excluding management, are helpful and supportive.

Cons

Unrealistic sales goals without any account for a strength of your local market. Very old-school management systems. Fear-driven culture where asking questions or raising concerns about soundness of some decisions is extremely frowned upon. Orders are imposed from the top and executed mindlessly throughout the chain. No constructive discussion is possible. Everybody is afraid to speak up. Poor job security for advisors, call centre and mid office. High stress. High turnover. Your success is entirely dependent on your superior. Extremely poor infrastructure. Inefficient workflows. Customers are not the priority. Very stingy on the incentives. $150 bonus to the top credit card seller in a quarter sounds like an insult. Too many lies are floating around.

Pros

Not sure right now with the way things are going...

Cons

The culture has taken a serious downhill slide. Employee morale is the worst I've seen in my 10 years there as we shift from 'doing what's right for the customer' to making everything all about sales and numbers, even if it doesn't make sense. The 'performance mindset' they want you to have tells you to not care about family, the value of people, and doing what's right for clients. The amount of micro-managing, observational coaching, and useless meetings is mind boggling.
