Pros

- great people, collegial culture, easy to get help from others in the firm (people, even executives, almost always respond) - traditionally conservative and risk-averse environment (the anti-Lehman...)

Cons

- rapid changes are underway which appear to be causing unintended consequences -- proceed with caution, although the culture change might benefit you - traditionally poor compensation has led to complacency and often poor morale (and mediocre middle management and junior execs)

Pros

Over the past 10 years I've worked with some amazing people. Loved my job, even on 'bad' days. Always enjoyed the challenge of bringing in more business and loved working with HFA's & Brokers to successfully approve mortgages for clients.

Cons

Severe and rapid downsizing taking place. Over 500 people laid off (or due to be laid off in near future) and that's just at the Western Service Centre in Calgary. Less than 3 months ago we were reassured our jobs were secure and didn't need to be concerned.....then last week they closed the Mortgage unit and previously the Calgary contact centre They lied to us and misled us - so many broken promises! Scotiabank is not to be trusted, they do not care about the people - no apologies & no appreciation. Stay away from Scotiabank, the focus is global expansion - even when you call the customer service line, chances are you'll be connected to South America.

Pros

friendly and diverse group of co-workers

Cons

The supervisor who conducted my f2f interview in their Hfx call centre was 20 minutes late. The job description doesn't explain that call centre employees are expected to be technical support workers in resolving customer complaints about the corporate website. Telephone employees also schedule appointments for staff at branches right across the country. Employees are squeezed for every ounce of productivity. The mantra is do more in less time. 16.25 an hour to be secretaries, tech support and jack of all trade phone support
