Pros

The only real benefit of working at this company is the annual bonus

Cons

"Change is only constant" - expect being impacted and released from service any time. Reorganization or happening constantly "Simplicity" - only a word on paper. Nothing is getting simpler. If you have an ideal, you will have to get Approval, create power points, then have a call, present, get approval, redo power points, get follow up call, another approval, and so on. Decision takes way too long hence many projects are not delivered. As an expert, you spend more time on doing power points and telling senior management why you want to do it rather then actually doing it. After a while, you will stop having ideas, because you get tired of doing power points Lack of trust to junior people Some upper management can make your life really difficult Some LM are good, at least allow you to do your job, other, will question everything even if they have no idea about Career Opportunities - only if you know people and have good network otherwise, you can be stuck on the same JG for ages. Some senior people, i have no idea how they ended up on the level they are, with the knowledge the have. It’s not what you know, it’s where you are. The cards are stacked against you if you are not in London, The Hague and Houston.

Not what it used to be

Pros

Worked here for 8 years, ever since joining as a graduate. Company became less and less tolerable over the years, I started as full time, last 2 years have been part time, and currently on sabbatical … (: … don’t know if I’ll go back to be honest. Pension, healthcare Flexibility and work life balance Global colleagues Experience across energy sector Support for education (in the past, would be impossible now) Reputation - big name on CV

Cons

Internal politics means often not much gets done Progression depends more on “playing the game” and “talking the talk” than actual work/contribution. Have seen some people getting promoted taking credit for others’ work and blagging, not very capable themselves. Progression much easier for certain types of people. Not to say you can’t get promoted for doing good work. But after a certain point, little to no career progression… unless you love to ‘network’/play office politics (and little else) for a living. I’ve seen great managers / senior leaders brought in from outside, only to be “Shellified” by the machine after some time.. Some rare gems at middle and senior management, its hard and they try, but Very difficult to change the system. Reorganisation every few years Strategy with new CEO is short sighted and focuses on stock price. Job security is not what it used to be - so many job cuts in all departments, despite record profits. Future strategy and direction unclear/ uncertain/ lack of transparency. Lack of integrity - For past decade have touted themselves as leaders in future sustainable energy - now essentially cutting down all renewable energy departments. Less and less care/respect for employees in recent years. A lot of colleagues getting unfair treatment, cutthroat culture for past 1-2 years due to cuts. HR being told to avoid redundancy payments as much as possible. Gone are the days of the gold Rolex after a lifetime of service! Now, you can go on the company shop website and buy one with your own money. If you don’t first suddenly get made redundant after 10, 20, 30 years of service that is…

Pros

Base salary is a bit small, but the rest of the benefit package compensates for it. Very generous with the benefits, bonuses, and allowances. Employees are really supported by management and HR > stays true to their claim that Shell has an "employee-centric" work environment

Cons

Couldn't keep up with office politics. Really bad mob mentality sometimes, especially for larger teams. Big bosses are great, but mid managers are so-so and favoritism is apparent. Career progression is so slow (there would be colleagues that have been there for more than 5 years before getting promoted to the next job grade)

Pros

At lead level, it’s mostly balanced. Good pay. Above market standards. Transparent pay range. Child care benefits for new moms. Understanding management

Cons

Work is not as fast paced as a bank. Juniors are over worked every month end. Risk of reorganisation. But I see opportunities internally. If you’re coming from a bank background, can take a while to adjust to the lack of pace and speed in projects. They changed WFO rules globally. Lack of transparency in pay review.
