Pros

Even though the company has grown substantially, management has done a great job of ensuring to maintain a small company feel - all of them have an open door policy and most of the time they are seen walking through the office with a smile. Management practices what they preach and don't just talk about it. This attitude flows throughout the company: very positive, team-focused (everyone at Tableau is part of one team). Fun events.

Cons

Tableau has everything going for it - except salaries, which are WAY below market. The company has fantastic medical benefits, 401k match (but it's only $1500/year) and stock - which used to somewhat make up for dismal salaries, but with the recent stock drop, isn't adding much value anymore. Attrition seems to be on the rise as a result. Advice to new hires: negotiate the salary you want up front (don't accept promises that increases will be forthcoming during the annual review process - unless you get this in writing in your offer letter). Employees have been complaining about compensation since I've been here - I often hear management discussing the need to focus on this in order to be better in line with the competition, but I haven't seen any evidence that they are planning to make adjustments in the near future.

Best place I've ever worked

Pros

I’ve been here almost two years and still love my job and team as much today as I did when I first started. Though we have grown quickly, we have still been able to maintain our core values and transparency, which continue to set us apart from so many other companies. I have truly never worked with more humble-smart people in my entire life. Senior Leadership are very open and approachable. It is so impactful to see our CEO and CFO casually chatting with folks from all over the organization on a day-to-day basis. Tableau is not title-heavy and it’s very refreshing. Some misc. highlights: - Generous PTO - Fully-stocked kitchens - Great company parties and social events - Employees are given the opportunity to work at our annual customer conference (arguably the best in the industry) - Great work location in Fremont - Lots of training and career development opportunities - Volunteer opportunities through Tableau Foundation - Onboarding programs are best I’ve ever seen - Employee referral program is very generous

Cons

Opportunities: - 401(k) match is very low (only up to $1,500 annually) - Compensation is about middle-of-the-road and as stock is a significant part of that compensation, it can fluctuate

Pros

Great product, throws fun parties, kitchen full of food and drinks, good place to get your foot in the door in high tech or if you're switching industries, but must be willing you make significantly below industry average pay. Good benefits and stock once it vests.

Cons

Upper exec leadership needs to recognize that just because some employees have been there for a while, it doesn't mean they are experienced enough to run large teams or an important part of the business. They systems are so convoluted that it makes doing your job challenging. To scale to the growth the company will continue to have challenges, unless there is an experienced CTO in place or someone with previous experience in building out scalable systems. A lot of employee turnover and processes can change depending on how leadership in the dept feels that day, which shows the lack of experienced management. I've never seen anything like the work environment here. If you're an experienced professional, don't expect to come in and be valued for your experience. Not a good work/life balance, in operations in particular.
