I like Tableau, not my department

Pros

I believe in what the product is. Tableau is a beautiful product and I am constantly amazed at what people come up with. I work with very intelligent people. I have a solid work/life balance. Benefits are top notch. RSUs exist, but anemia has set in. believe we are meant to do great things.

Cons

My specific department is bad. underpaid and underappreciated. The only time we have any power is if we have an offer to leave. Otherwise it doesn't matter. You wonder why attrition is so bad when the #1 complaint is compensation? Imagine that. Growth of the company means that the leadership hierarchy gets more and more flat every day. With this growth, I've found that our cultural values have decreased

Pros

Great product, throws fun parties, kitchen full of food and drinks, good place to get your foot in the door in high tech or if you're switching industries, but must be willing you make significantly below industry average pay. Good benefits and stock once it vests.

Cons

Upper exec leadership needs to recognize that just because some employees have been there for a while, it doesn't mean they are experienced enough to run large teams or an important part of the business. They systems are so convoluted that it makes doing your job challenging. To scale to the growth the company will continue to have challenges, unless there is an experienced CTO in place or someone with previous experience in building out scalable systems. A lot of employee turnover and processes can change depending on how leadership in the dept feels that day, which shows the lack of experienced management. I've never seen anything like the work environment here. If you're an experienced professional, don't expect to come in and be valued for your experience. Not a good work/life balance, in operations in particular.

Pros

Except for the parties and occasional free food that Tableau organizes for all the company, the group in Corp IT tends to not have as much budget or management to compare to other groups in the org. The overall culture at Tableau is great and you find awesome people to work with in other groups, however Corp IT appears to have fallen through the cracks and do not posses the same level of quality people

Cons

Lack of strong management, disgruntled, over worked team that will argue with you at every statement or opinion you make. This is found mainly in the Corp IT group (includes network engineering, server admins) - Helpdesk team is the exception as they are very helpful and have good personalities. *Encounter a lot of Type A personalities *Very week leadership willing to drive issues or communicate issues with upper management Unless your benefit package (including base and bonus) exceeds by a large margin your current salary, I would think twice before joining this team.
