Pros

*These may not be pros to some but others will like it. -Hire anyone with a bachelors for supervisory level in spite of skills and lack of experience -Hires college graduates with good pay and no experience and puts them in charge of good people and gives them power to terminate for any reason -Distribution center pays well -Gives extra perks (discounts with Dell, Tmobile, At&t, movie theaters etc) -Target discount -401k & pension -3 year top out on pay

Cons

-hires inexperienced staff in supervisory roles who fire for no reason or write people up just to cut costs of long term employees with high pay. -forces supervisors to find reasons to fire good staff -terminates with no reason and makes up stupid reasons to justify it. -would rather waste thousands of dollars to transfer people in from other DC's to complete work assignments because they have fired everyone. -Corruption -Favoritism -Rules apply to some very inconsistent -no room for change or ideas. -Can not move up in this company and if you try to transfer they will fire you or write you up preventing this in the specific DC I worked for. They then mess up your transfers if you happen to get through and nearly get you fired. -do as I say not as I do attitude with management -gls' can destroy property and be told by corporate to fix it but you will be fired for "vandalism" if you put a label on a forklift that someone else misprinted yet others are allowed to paint lines and designs on them with no penalties. -If fired they will tell prospective employers what they fired you for without explanation and even add things in they have no evidence or proof you did. 99% of the time the person didn't do it to begin with. It is made up. -Not able to retire with this company -Employee appeal process for terminations is FIXED and very biased. -Told to violate rules and Osha regulations in order to get the numbers met to make the GL look good. If injured they say you are fired and you were "unaware of surroundings". -Will ruin someone's life over personal issues or just a GL having a bad day. -Expensive health care benefits at this time, with poor coverage and high deductibles. Most medications are not covered. For instance you pay $80/WEEK for a family, have a $6000 deductible that must be broken up by 3 different people, will not cover autism, and most medications you may save only $5 opposed to full priced. Dental is not good either. You have to pay full price to go to the doctors office (for instance $150 for a new visit and you must pay whole thing). Extra charges for smokers but not for obese. Will not cover any weight loss assistance either. -if you have a handicapped family member, they will use that against you on time off/ FMLA. -GL"s don't have any compassion, or any conscious or they would not do some of the things they do there. Oh an so much more. Just tired of typing.

Pros

Great for a new college grad and decent pay Most peers are great to work with Good leadership development Decent training program

Cons

No work life balance, expect to work 60+ hours and 6 days a week. You will be called/texted on your one off day and on your weekends. I would wake up each morning to be at work at 7am and would leave around 6 or 7pm each day if I was on a day shift. If working a closing shift expect to work 2pm-midnight and have to be in the next day at 7am. As an HR one would think I was in an office working on what requires the store to remain compliant, but because I had a demanding manager I was required to spend most of my time on the salesfloor folding clothes and assisting guests. Expect to be given very critical feedback from your peers and manager on a constant basis. Because you are exhausted and over worked it becomes hard to spruce up the traditional red and khaki that even managers are required to wear. My manager told me on my birthday that I needed to look happier and dress better, after I worked a 17 hour overnight shift.

Pros

Money is good for a retail job. When you start out as an Executive you are treated like a golden child.

Cons

No metrics for individual accountablilty. It's their favorite word, "accountable", but it's all perception by a higher up corporate suit. You are forced to play the game, be happy, have no opinion unless they thought of it first. There is a 20/40/60 rule among Exec's. 20 years of service, over 40 years of age and making over 60k and it's goodbye to you by any means they can conjure up.
