Pros

The work is challenging and there is always a different job to do if you're unhappy with you current position. Getting cross-trained is the best way to make your job more interesting and to make you more effective in your roles.

Cons

There have been major cutbacks due to declining sales. Management has a lack of sympathy for team members who are subject to the consequences of the major hours cuts. Morale has declined severely since 2005 as the company has made hours and team members more expendable.

Pros

Compensation is always competitive and the benefits are pretty good. Target is an industry leader and invests well in maintaining that position.

Cons

Target is very political. Processes are world class but the effort to assess and assure quality in the field is pencil whipped on tour checklists by District Managers and support staff. The elitist attitudes are tough to stomach at times. Much of this is caused from promoting very young executives assessed with "potential" that rarely includes interpersonal effectiveness. Accountability is highly regarded but narrowly defined as someone who will endure manic-depressive directors and VPs that like to intimidate and protect their positions.

Pros

Target is a great place to consider when beginning a career. Firstly, Minneapolis is great place to live well and save money. If the location is not an issue, Target is an almost ideal place to start working. Target also has a well-known employment brand, which allows for great mobility after that fundamental experience is gained. Within Target, it's encouraged to gain knowledge of the different sides that drive the business, which allows young professionals a great opportunity to learn. Depending on where in the company one starts, new employees will have the opportunity to be exposed to many new concepts.

Cons

Target is not a great place to work from a long-term perspective. The benefits provided to team members with considerable years of service do not compare well to Target's competitors (retail and non).
