Pros

When an express store has collegues, customers and managers who care it's a rewarding job that keeps you on your toes and is easy to jump into. There are no collegue specialisms in express, everyone can do everything. Customers can be hit or miss but working in a tesco in a low income area provides a lot of entertainment. You will be asked to do overtime sometimes but not harassed.

Cons

When collegues or managers don't care the experience can become miserable. Insane and ever growing expectations are on the rise as staffing levels continue to fall. These two issues combine, forcing collegues to not care as a coping mechanism. Training is just e-learning and box checking too, collegues teach each other how to do the job.

Alright For A Short Term or Part Time Job

Pros

10%-20% staff discount Clubcard depending on products purchased and time of year. Staff deals with Tesco Mobile for cheap phone contracts. If you’re at a store with location allowance, the pay is decent for the type of job. Ideal for students who want holiday work or someone who needs a part time job. Ideal for someone who needs a short term job. Often overtime available and easy to book. The occasional manager is really good and will support you.

Cons

Often understaffed, causing a strain on staff. Depending on your department you could be doing the job of 2-3 people with little to no support or compensation. Frequent changes to lower management and team leaders. Most of which are under qualified for the role and don’t possess good management/leadership qualities. Good managers tend to leave quickly. Blame gets passed down to the lower paid staff and there’s very little positive feedback/appreciation. Verbal abuse from customers. Very repetitive and very little job satisfaction in the long term. Management and team leaders can be rude and belittling.
