Pros

Decent benefits agreement. Good amount of holiday entitlement. Union agreement means better job security - VERY hard to get sacked. If you land in a good store it's an easy clock in clock out job. In some stores it's easy to pick up extra hours for your contract.

Cons

Staff aren't valued for more difficult roles. Management are usually poorly trained or have poor attitudes and pass a lot of their workload onto the base rate workers. Company is on a trend of cutting most employee benefits and replacing them with lip service. While some of the benefits are good a lot of them are difficult to access - particularly anything relating to another business Tesco owns eg vision express or pizza express. Replacing most of their staff with self service, then blaming staff for higher rates of theft. No protection / security if your store is deemed to be low risk. High rates of customer abuse. Extra hours are entirely dependent on how your store manages theirs - tends to be no overtime in the new year. Extra contracted hours only appear if somebody leaves, and will usually go to the staff most liked by managers. Lots of poorly trained managers with no knowledge of company policies. Hard to get rid of a bad manager / bad colleagues because it's difficult to get sacked for anything but cut and dry gross misconduct. Entirely variable based on the store you're in and who you work with. Wouldn't recommend working in an express to my worst enemy.

Pros

Pay is good Club card discount Home time You get the opportunity to leave early alot if you want.

Cons

.Sexist mangers who pick favourites with the younger woman and act very inappropriate with them. .Unsafe, there's constantly water all over the floor, most the equipment is broken but staff are forced to use. Dangerous, uneducated, untrained staff. Alot of the staff can't speak English and don't listening to the training they were given, some don't even know what numbers are or how to use a toilet. They will push in front of everyone to get there rate and throw stuff in cages and not stack trays properly or too high. Mangers do not care. If you come to mangers with a issue they are more likely to try and blame you and even punish you for speaking up and then they act surprised when the issue becomes apparent to them. . Constant change in GMs . Communication is non existent . Mangers actually do nothing but mess about all day on there phones and order in take away. . Mangers constantly call for meetings over petty things just to make it look they have a reason to still be employed. . Most the mangers don't know how to do the jobs themselves .extreme levels of nepotism. You'll only ever get promoted if your dad's s manger or a friend of a manger. . Mangers have no genuine empathy for other human beings .some of the mangers have a extremely high opinions of themselves. . All the mangers care about is staffs rates .Agency staff is the worse thing to ever happen to tesco. They are extremely rude and get away with everything. I could literally go on and say so much more put the place is absolute mess and if customers saw what goes off behind close doors they'd be disgusted
