Pros

Hours are reasonable, no Sundays, off by 4pm on Saturdays. Easy to get to here in Chicago. Great customers! Neighborhood filled with repeat customers who are pleasant to speak with. Other local business establishments honor UPS Store discounts, as do we.

Cons

Low pay, terrible health insurance, not enough hours, no parking, parking lot is small and surrounded by residential permit parking. Not much room for advancement. Owning your own UPS Store Franchise involves many loops to jump through.

Graphic Design in a Retail Environment

Pros

Learned many new skills and met a few wonderful people. This job is interesting and challenging. Good entry level job if you want to get into printing and graphic design. If you're already a designer, it's a great place to meet new clients and hone your skills.

Cons

Busy and physically demanding. Most of the customers have no idea how packing and shipping works, and think it's supposed to be as cheap as the post office. Customers can get downright nasty for little to no good reason, ie. explaining to them that their package has a FedEx drop off label and we can't take it, or trying to explain to someone how an address label does not entitle them to free shipping, and having them scream at you for it. If you are a graphics/document services person, expect to be interrupted every 90 seconds while you try to design someone's business cards, flyers, banners, etc. Retail burnout happens quick here... and TUPPS is a franchise so expect low pay and no benefits.

Pros

The fact that all UPS Stores are privately franchised offers a unique opportunity to identify with other local small business owners.

Cons

Unfortunately a comparison between The UPS Store and FedEx Office offers a painfully obvious view of how slow the overall progression has been within The UPS Store community. Equipment, employees, and general services available are lacking at 9 out of 10 locations.
