Chaos in IT

Pros

YMCA of the USA has good health benefits and a rare pension plan. People really do care about community and about giving back.

Cons

Last year Y-USA hired a new CIO. Unfortunately, he came from a org with a department of over 500 IT workers and painfully reminded everyone that he previously had 2 assistants. At the time of his hire, the total IT staff was 6 and the rest on furlough. As the pandemic progressed the new leader setup goals that were unobtainable by the small team in place that was already over stressed keeping the core operations and applications in place. This stress finally caused the complete failure of IT leadership where now all existing directors of IT tenured their resignation and more junior staff have started to follow in their wake. This IT department is not one to work for under current leadership. Steer clear unless you like projects given to you at 6pm due the next morning, 80 hour work weeks, a manager that keeps a log of of your faults and replays them at a whim and another wise sad environment where there is zero trust.

Corrupt & Dysfunctional Organization

Pros

The program participants and being able to work with team members who are passionate about positive change in the community. Having the ability to create, plan, and implement programming.

Cons

There is a lot of work that needs to be done in the organization. This association specifically has a high turnover rate due to the fact that they do not fully equip their staff with the training or support needed to fully do their jobs. There are a lot of staff members working in leadership or senior level director positions that should not be. Leadership is infected with a lot of hypocrisy and people that break the rules and policies of the organization -- that somehow manage to get away with it despite the human resources department being aware. History of taking advantage of lower level staff members, paying people incorrectly and not correcting it within a timely manner and favoritism.

Pros

You will see how the y really does care about the community despite its incredible ability to no care about the people who make it happen...

Cons

Oh wow.... I was going to become one of their personal training staff. Or so i thought. I show up for this workshop that they sell to prospectives. 95 bucks. I thought why not? Shelled out for school and an NASM certification so why not? Ill learn about their way of doing things, maybe some new ways to ply my trade etc... Learned almost nothing. Except for the impact they do make in the community. I also learned that they would rather have a proven personal trainer work part time as a desk clerk or floor associate. No full time jobs. If they offer you full time and it isnt a managerial position, dont believe them. Just ask someone who works there how much they care about people that work there. I of course turned the job down, but was willing to work two part time positions with two branches. No dice.
