Pros

When you decide to leave Turner or not even work at Turner

Cons

Behind closed doors, Turner Construction in DC/MD/VA has an Antiquated Harsh work philosophy and a outdated day to day process. A culture of “I've worked here for 10 - 15+ years so I know more than you do”. “We’ve always done it this way, so that's how it's done”. They mislead clients and sub contractors with unrealistic low budgets. It's really sad to see this once great company going down a similar path as Enron and they refuse to look in the mirror. The VA office hasn't won a project in 1.5 years! And the leadership has no clue on how to win work. Sub contractors dislike working for Turner in DC/MD/VA. There's so much harsh stuff going on at Turner.

Pros

If you are coming straight out of school, this is a great place to learn and gain experience.

Cons

The Dallas office Sr Mgmt is completely disconnected from staff. The top mgrs that aren't giving you lip service have their hands tied. Projects are stretched with not enough staff or inexperienced staff. Burnout is a common problem. Teams are often broken up to fill immediate needs. Yes men are promoted, not the builders. If you tell the GM what he wants to hear, you're getting promoted. Little work has been won in Dallas due to efforts to chase work in other states, which has proved unsuccessful. Too many policies in place to keep employees from forming relationships with industry partners. We can't even go to lunch with architects!!!

Pros

Great reputation in the construction industry. Turner also offers great compensation compared to their competition.

Cons

Turner is great if you are of the majority demographic, however, if you fall outside of that category then it will be hard for you to advance your career. Over the past 3-4 years the Atlanta office has had difficulty retaining talented female employees and employees of color because of the lack of career advancement for their demographic.
