Pros

Turner has offices across the entire country and is a great way to get started in the construction industry. The transfer potential to a different office location is very high and the company has individuals to help in this type of transition. Such a large company can provide many different opportunities for employees to work on many different projects. This is a great advantage to smaller construction managers or general contractors which generally have their own specific niche of projects.

Cons

Such a large company makes promotions and job recognitions somewhat arbitrary. Staff are sometimes promoted on personal relationships they may have with management and not necessarily based on performance.

Pros

At most constructions companies you can expect to work hard, long hours. Turner though, allows me to get off when I need to and focuses on balancing outside life. We get plenty of time off. This year, for example, we had paid days off work that no other construction company I’ve seen has got off including Presidents Day, Veterans Day and Good Friday. Quarterly, the company takes us out for the day to play; we’ve been boating, kayaking and out to the arcade. I plan on playing on the softball team next year that flys out to Cincinnati to play against 20 other business units form around the county. Turner is a very balanced place to work.

Cons

Turner is a very large corporation and you can feel pretty small. Here in Seattle the main office is rather clicky and difficult to assert oneself. Some will be frustrated that individual contributions are not valued like they would be in a small company. I saved the company my salary worth of revenue in the first few months without anyone even noticing. Most of the people I have seen leave do so because they are not advancing as fast as they think they should. The slow growth can be attributed to a larger system lade climbing that is in place.
