Pros

Comp -- was fair Commute -- was great Work -- was easy

Cons

The work wasn't challenging. Even when I asked for more or more challenging work, none was given. Reviews were a joke -- one year would completely contradict the next. Simply put, UBS can't get its act together. It likes to think it is a big player in investment banking and compares itself to the Goldmans and Morgan Stanleys of the world. It will never be more than a penny-ante player.

Pros

UBS is a truly global company full of talented and hardworking people (many of whom came from consulting). The brand is the company's best asset.

Cons

Because the company has grown as a result of mergers and acquisitions, the various "pieces" have never been fully integrated together and still operate independently. Mass layoffs and low pay has led to an exodus of talent.

Management cannot revert the sinking ship

Pros

Potential for the firm to right itself - it used to be an excellent firm

Cons

- Management has made severe missteps globally and in the US. At the global level it appears that new leadership is attempting to right the ship by making drastic cuts. While painful they are likely necessary due to the issues the firm is facing. - Domestically in the US leadership is nonexistent and the personnel cuts have largely been in the wrong areas. Senior management has attempted to insulate themselves and instead of trimming the fat and shaking up the managerial structure they simply made broad cuts of many talented individuals that actually impacted results. Some likely should have been cut while many others were eliminated because they were relatively well compensated. Management does not understand their significance to the direction of the firm. - - Since this reorganization process began, performance has fallen as opposed to improving and morale could not possibly be any worse. - For those remaining at UBS compensation is unclear and is no where close to the agreed upon ranges. - Management cannot seem to outline a true mission or strategy and execute. The strategy changes constantly even though the prior milestones were never met. - Continuous reorganization and shuffling which increases costs and distracts those that are in a position to impact results with no benefit realized.
