Pros

UBS encourages a good work / life balance. There is no excessive bureaucracy like at some of the American banks and people just get on with their jobs. Everyone I worked with was very friendly and highly skilled. In the technology areas, their interview process is pretty tough, but if you get through it you can be sure you will be working with people who know what they are doing. Their offices are in the city instead of Canary Wharf, which means an easier commute for some.

Cons

They aren't the best payers in the industry. Their offices could do with a bit of a face lift.

Pros

1. Benefits - Everything you should expect from an employer in the Financials (for salaried employees - not sure otherwise) including at least three weeks vacation, Health, Dental, Life, AD&D, Disability, 401k partial match, Legal, etc. 2. Online training development - Intranet site has a vast amount of internet based training that you can take at any time across a broad spectrum of subjects from Java programming to foreign exchange lending.

Cons

1. Possible Layoffs at any time 2. Multiple years without any type of salary increase and/or bonus regardless of company or personal performance. 3. Location - a 15 minute ferry ride from NYC or just outside the Lincoln Tunnel so the commute can be brutal. There is also an additional fee for parking - $40-50 per month.

Pros

UBS used to have a great global brand and the IB is still very respected in many ways. If you're interested in helping to rebuild the brand it can be a great place - but that obviously doesn't come without risks.

Cons

The financial services industry is in turmoil. There have been lots of layoffs and there are more to come, so job stability is a worry. The changed compensation model might be an improvement, but most staff here feel they've been screwed a bit over the last 12-24 months - and it remains to be seen how and if we ever get back to what many folks expect.
