Pros

Great place to learn the basics of the financial industry. People are usually willing to help out each other. More of team culture versus a "me-me-me" culture. One can move around to different areas with relative ease. They look for people to promote from within first, rather than looking externally.

Cons

Long work hours. Hours can be long unexpectedly, I have missed a number of personal dinners due to "emergencies" that had to be solved that night. Senior management tends to be pulled from the same group, so not a lot of new ways of thinking. Poor compensation versus peers. The quality of new hires from colleges has gone down in the last few years. Surprise surprise.

Pros

Very nice and helpful team. Good compensation considering the amount of work. Very flexible working hours. Very high quality of life in Switzerland, one of the most international countries in the world. Great networking opporunities within your own but also with other divisions. Free use of UBS internal research platform which includes all kind of market and indutrie data.

Cons

Sometimes very uncoordinated tasks. Younger employees might find it hard to fit in a pretty "mature" team. Sometimes extrem slow and long communication ways. If you work in Switzerland you have to be fluent in German, French is a big plus.

Pros

In the business aligned technology groups there are a lot of really bright people working on a wide range of projects using a wide range of technologies. Within IT at least, there is excellent work life balance and a strong collaborative culture, which helps make working that bit more enjoyable.

Cons

As a bank, the IT function is huge, so you do get the feeling of being a small fish in a huge sea. Whilst communication and teamwork within the immediate group is good, it can often be hard to see the bigger picture, and cross-division collaboration can be painful. Plus given that UBS was formed through a series of mergers, there is a lot of legacy stuff lurking around.
