Pros

UBS has provided me with great opportunity to be successful. My contributions have been consistently rewarded and the company is committed to improving its technology to be a market leader. I enjoy working in an environment where the commitment to business strategy is shared by so many. Also, I am proud of the work we are doing and believe in the firm's strategy.

Cons

Any time you work in an organization as large as this one, there is heavy politics that get in the way of doing the right thing for the business. It can be tiresome to fight through that. Also, things take more time than they do in smaller companies because of all the red tape.

Pros

Despite hard times company still has power. Good people here and good technology being used. When I first started here in 2000 the quality of the people here was almost awe inspiring. I learned a lot and we embraced new technologies that would provide benefit to the compny. Over the years consolidation and controls are coming into place, but UBS is very big and there are many cultural boundaries to overcome in order to set business processes that work across the entire organization. It is a company that benefits on the surface for being many companies wrapped into one, but with shared infrastructure needs and pressure to run as lean as possible UBS is losing its soul: its people.

Cons

Everything decentralized. Lack of standards. Hard times see cuts. Migration of IT work offshore. UBS is going the same way as other large companies: what can we send offshore? In terms of front office support there is little change, but for back office and infrastructure IT outsourcing is the force removing stairs behind the employee as they climb this corporate ladder. If you want any kind of job security or want to continue the type of work you do in this organization for a long time, be prepared to continuously look for work internally or give up the line of work for other types.
