Cons

This bank is struggling to keep it together. 4q18;was bad 1q19 is worse. There were some bonus in 2018 but I suspect almost none in 2019

Pros

- Free tea, coffee and water (Sparkling or Still) - Time off/ breaks: Due to countless “Townhalls” & meetings - Every year they strive to improve... on things that have been done 5-10yrs prior (no joke) - hindsight I guess - Erm, they are in tune with the latest jargon - same values/ beliefs/ principles, strategies, culture as next financial institution (the Be Agile, Collaboration, Client horse, Technology... Blue Steel!)

Cons

- Poor management (Esp middle management) - Mediocre long term staff: First jobbers, hanging on to pension, lazy, brain dead, no innovation, lack of ambition, lack of responsibility, lack of initiative - Bureaucratic - Negative environment - Slow moving - Boring ... I guess if you are looking for a mediocre ride and to collect your pension, with a hint of feeling sorry for yourself moaning at lunch... YAWN! Get on with it. SIDE NOTE: If your application is not getting through, this because the recruitment team make the decision before the hiring team even gets a sniff. Due to not so great recruiters that honestly know nothing about the field they recruit in and bias (no comment)... This is insider info/ the team I worked in lol.

Pros

- location (central ZH) - good maternity leave (6 months paid leave for mothers)

Cons

UBS is led by employees who have been in the bank since they have joined the workforce (so without exposure to other business models, working cultures). It is a very risk averse culture where there is no accountability and no one likes to make a decision that might impact their comfortable salaries and bonus. Promotion criteria are not clearly defined and discretionary to management and only happen once a year where very few get promoted. Even though challenging status quo is part of the mission the minute you challenge anything you will become persona non grata. Stay far away from this place if you want to develop as a professional and grow.
