Pros

You get to rotate to different positions every few months. They're flexible when it comes to experience level of incoming employees. Younger managers are great to work with and you are often called to leave the office.

Cons

Long hours, manual labor, poor work life balance. Prepare to work crazy shifts and long hours during peak season. Also be prepared to deliver packages, sort packages, and be a "helper" to drivers during snowstorms, heavy rains, and peak season (Thanksgiving to January).

Pros

I enjoy my job as a driver very much and I've been doing it 37 years. I love driving, seeing the countryside( I'm a farmboy at heart) ,connecting with my customers, and the pay and benefits are great. And I am my own boss when I'm on my delivery area and that's terrific!

Cons

The hours are long sometimes, but the OT pay is outstanding. And of course, the winter weather and road conditions and not real good sometimes in ND. Still beats a hurricane though! Also, UPS has a policy now of just delivering to the main towns when inclement weather strike. And of course, cell phones really help a lot. (Communication is the answer to alot of problems.) We never had those when I started working years ago.

Pros

Security (for now). Though there seems to be movement to outsource IS functions. If you are performer chances are you will be trusted and left alone.

Cons

Bureacracy which is found in larger organizations. Too much rah rah and emphasis on stock ownership which should be a personal choice. Promotions not always fair. I was passed over for promotion even though I had more experience and education than the person promoted. That person was good friends with the promoting manager. So they like to talk the line that they are fair, in actuality they are no different from other firms. IS has too many people and I can see more downsizing.. they do not call it layoffs. But it has happened in IS. Its called elimination of a functional area and people have to find jobs elsewhere or take a package which is never that great.
