There are a lot of benefits that are allowed by the air force, with the exception of medical, they aren't 'handed' to you - you have to pursue them, generally in your time off which most people would be spending with their families. The oppurtunity to travel, and have an impact in far reaches of the world can also be a huge positive, if you are willing to sacrifice.
Cons
It's certainly not for everyone, if you aren't self motivated, are unwilling to move your family every 3 years (probably somewhere they don't want to go) and you dislike leaving everything you are familiar with for 8-15 months at a time and working 12hr/7days with no breaks when you deploy; you might want to look for another career. It is also very unfortunate that under-performers are not weeded out very effectively.
