Pros

- I work with some of the most passionate and driven people I could imagine. Uline does a great job at employee selection. - Nice amenities on the corporate campus. While work gyms are becoming more commonplace, we have outdoor walking trails and a decent cafe with fresh and unique items served at breakfast and lunch daily. - The cafe food is generally pretty good, although underseasoned a lot of the time.

Cons

I will avoid saying names directly for the sake of the privacy of the individuals and myself. The only exclusion will be Liz Uihlein, the nearly 80-year-old company president, and authoritarian matriarch. Her husband Richard will also be mentioned, although his health has prevented him from participating in company affairs for some time now. - Liz and her c-suite minions have actively forced employers who hire multiple Uline employees to stop considering Uline applications under threat of stopping business. This point alone makes me ashamed to say I work here. - No remote options. The company would rather lose a great employee than allow them to go remote (some major exceptions being granted when the individuals have been deemed too important to lose). - No hybrid options. Despite maintaining the IT infrastructure and capabilities to allow remote work, you need an approved excuse to remain in the comfort of your own home while working. - No sick days. If you're sick, you use your PTO (most people choose to just come in anyway). No exceptions. - 'Mandatory' 5 hours of weekly unpaid overtime. I say mandatory because legally they cannot force this on salary employees. However, if you fail to maintain a 45-hour weekly average you will be reprimanded come time for your performance review. - Maintaining this average becomes difficult if you take PTO because you are only allowed to take 8 hours of PTO a day despite the 9 they mandate you spend in the office. - Salary workers must clock in and out every day despite not being awarded overtime pay. They do this solely to micromanage you. - You are not just micromanaged by the time clock, but also by a daily tasking system you MUST input details about your current work into. This must be done by 9:30 AM every morning. - 1980s business professional dress code, passed off as "company culture". This is not what culture is. Nobody likes it. This fact alone prevents me from recommending any women work here. - Maximum 5 personal desk items, with strict restrictions on what they can be. I've actually yet to find an item our facilities team won't report me for. The employee handbook does not distinctly make all conditions evident, and therefore some senior facilities members will make up rules on the spot. - No plants in the building. - Blindingly bright fluorescent lights everywhere. - Bad toilet paper despite the company selling better toilet paper. - Uncomfortable desk chairs despite the company selling better desk chairs. - Random drug testing corporate employees, and a hair test upon hiring. This is because of Liz's ancient stance on recreational cannabis use. - Overall, extreme cult-like behavior about Liz and her "vision". She is not a genius. Her husband inherited what's estimated to be 100 million dollars of the Schlitz brewing fortune. I can't say I'd be as successful as Uline if I had that opportunity, but man, my company would at least do something interesting... - The corporate buildings all display Liz and Richard's personal art collection. Upon seeing them you may wonder, why are the paintings mounted at such unappealing heights on the walls? The reason for this is Liz specifically instructs our facilities team to hang them at her eye level. This is real. - Elizabeth and Richard Uihelin are the number 2 individual political donors in the country, right under George Soros. Liz's political interest takes priority over everything, including employee wellness. Her self-assuredness in her beliefs, although common in women of her antiquity, is disturbing for someone of such power. - A certain male Uihlein family member currently homes, and pays hush money to a previous female employee of Uline. You can guess the details - Another certain Uihlein family member is said to be the "Hunter Biden" of Uline. Yes, all implications here apply. No, company rules and policies do not apply to the family.

Pros

The pay started off fine, however has not kept up with current market value. In many cases you will be ~20k under market value. Bonus is alright, but again can't compete with the market. Some of the people are great and exceptional, however their voice is often drowned out in the name of "Company Culture"

Cons

There is no easy place to begin. First and foremost, when employees were attempting to leave Liz began applying legal pressure to companies hiring people to attempt to scare away any offers being extended. This happened between the legal team getting involved, letters being sent and phone calls being made to the leadership of new companies. This has happened more than once. MANY of the Glassdoor reviews are 'fake' reviews left by HR employees to make Uline seem like a healthy place to work. Please keep this in mind when browsing reviews that are listed on this website. When people are announcing they are leaving their managers will gaslight them and say things like "Work from home is career suicide", "You are just going to make less money and be miserable". This does not speak for all leadership however, some people are great and make wise decisions. Pay has been lagging behind average market value for quite some time. Making a job change with no job title change will often come with a 20k raise. Work from home is always a firm NO. It does not matter how sick you are or if your family is needing assistance or the roads are so dangerous with snow that there are dozens of car crashes on the way to work. Under no circumstances are you able to do the exact same job from home to prevent possible harm to yourself or others. Leadership will say they do not watch the time clock (yes, a salaried position where you punch in/out at a time clock every day). However this is a lie, there is a required 45 hour minimum to prevent your manager from breathing down your neck and a 47 hour minimum if you even are considering scoring higher than a 3 on your performance review and get a well deserving promotion. There is no paid leave for maternity / paternity. If you need to take bereavement you are limited to 3 days and it must be someone in your immediate family, meaning if your cousin passes you will have to take time off to grieve. Many teams are under heavy scrutiny enduring hour by hour micromanagement. In cubicles you are restricted to five personal items, but if these personal items do not follow the 'company image' you will be required to take it home (eg. small figurine, a picture frame with a cross on it) When senior leadership holds town halls and addresses questions that have been asked hard questions they will laugh it off "haha there's that work from home question again... moving on". There is more than enough evidence that employees are struggling to maintain enthusiasm for the culture they must maintain where it is truly baffling that there is questions as to why people leave in droves when a new opportunity arrives at a new company.
