Uline interview

Pros

Before attending the interview, I researched the company and found multiple reviews mentioning racism in their hiring practices. Even someone currently working there shared similar concerns, but I chose to give the company the benefit of the doubt. However, after going through the interview process, it became evident that those concerns were valid. While they may hire people of color for warehouse or lower-tier roles, it seems they are not considered for positions in customer service or other better departments. It feels as though Uline is not interested in having a diverse team in roles beyond the most basic labor — jobs that others may not want. The lack of inclusivity and fairness was very disappointing.

Cons

I attended an interview on June 18, 2025, which consisted of two rounds: an aptitude test and a face-to-face interview. Unfortunately, the experience was quite disheartening. The interviewer appeared completely uninterested, and it was clear that my ethnicity played a role in how I was treated. The office lacked any form of diversity; it seemed to be composed entirely of people from one specific background. Despite having strong qualifications and relevant experience, none of that seemed to matter. It felt like being a person of color automatically disqualified me. The entire process was a waste of time and left me with the impression that the organization does not value inclusion or fairness.

Pros

Training is great. Bonus season is great but a few weeks after you realize, oh i'm still in this place.

Cons

Let's talk about their culture. The culture is very metric and feedback based. If you don't like metrics or feedback, do not take a job here. What's strange though is they want to give you feedback but upper management can't handle your honest feedback about the company. Their culture is also extremely outdated and very controlling. Depending on your branch you get 10-15 minutes a day to not be within adherence to your schedule. This means bathroom breaks, mental breaks, just need to stretch your legs, etc. If you like to be told you can only have 3-4 personal items on your desk, your trash can must be on a certain side of your desk, god forbid you leave a cup/drink on your desk after you leave for the day, no sticky notes on your computer/monitor, cover any tattoos you may have, you must have the "approved" pen holder & mousepad, need a cushion for the terrible office chairs they provide? - get a doctor's note for HR. Ladies you must wear a dress or skirt Mon-Fri unless you wear a full suit, with your shirt tucked in. All winter, you are expected to continue this dress code but add in some sweet 1950's panty hose. (required). Sometimes they just say whatever you are wearing isn't in the "spirit of the dress code". Oh, one of my favorite. You are only allowed to have one piercing in each ear. Have other ones? Can't wear those. They give everyone pretty hefty bonuses at the end of the year. Which is the only thing that keeps people from leaving the company at insane rates. And let me be clear when I say, employees are already leaving in droves. If company values matter to you, google the owners The Uihleins. They are huge political donors and other high profile social issues. After leaving the company and sharing stories about how Uline operated, I realized how out of touch their culture is. My favorite is always the look on my new employee's faces when I advise them of the guidelines we had to adhere to.
